North Bay Charters is the only charter agency in the area to offer this unique adventure.  Have you ever sat down to a meal of delicious, hot steamed Maryland Crabs and wondered exactly how they get from the Bay to your table?  Perhaps you’ve seen the “Deadliest Catch” on The Discovery Channel and wondered how it compares to the commercial crab industry in Maryland.

Now is your chance to experience the thrill of Chesapeake Bay crabbing aboard a registered, actively working, 45’ commercial fishing vessel.

When you book your crabbing charter with North Bay Charters, you will experience crabbing the same way it has been done by watermen for hundreds of years.  You’ll get to see how commercial watermen check and bait their  “pots”, you’ll get an opportunity to handle and cull crabs, you’ll learn how to distinguish the sex of a crab, and how they are sorted by market size.

If you are more interested in trotlining, customized trips can be scheduled to see this unique and fascinating method of harvesting the blue crab from the waters of the North Bay.

Here are just a few highlights of the trip.

Learn a brief history of crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay
See the operations of Captain and crew aboard a real, working crab boat
Learn to properly handle, identify, sort, and sex the Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab
Learn the various tools, implements, and technologies for catching the crab commercially
See what a day in the life of a waterman is really like

With trips starting at only 2 hours and $40.00 per person, this is a great opportunity to try something a little different while visiting North East, Maryland.  For more information or to book a trip, contact us today or talk to the fine folks at the Wellwood Restaurant who will be more than happy to give you a current schedule and assist you with booking your trip.
