Cecil County is rich in history and tradition. Originally an
American Indian Settlement, the shores of Cecil County were first explored by
Captain John Smith and his men around 1608.
Learn of the rich history of the Indians, their trade with early European settlers, and view historic nautical sites such as the Turkey Point Lighthouse and the C&D Canal aboard the 45' Rebecca Jean. This traditional Chesapeake Bay Deadrise style workboat is the same design used by waterman for over a hundred years to ply the vast resources from the upper Bay's often turbulent and unpredictable waters.
A lifelong native of the North Bay, Capt Christopher D. Shelton will lead you or your group on an informative, educational, guided history lesson along the waters of the Susquehanna, Elk, North East, Bohemia, and Sassafras Rivers. See early Indian Settlements of the Toghwogh's, Minquas, Shawnase, and Susquehannock Indians, and learn about unique areas such as Have de Grace, Principio Furnace, and Fishing Battery Island.
